FLINT HILLS NATURE TRAIL PARK

The Flint Hills Nature Trail Park is a strategically designed trailhead park that serves as the western terminus for the converted rails-to-trails multi-use path. This 117-mile path cuts across the entire Flint Hills Ecoregion, ending at the park in the town of Herington. Branded as “The Depot”, the park’s design recalls the historical Herington Depot and becomes a station where recreationists and equestrians can recover. The key impetus for this project is to encourage and invite users of the trail to linger, explore, and mingle with the citizens of Herington. Complete with connections to the broader Herington Parks system, the Depot plaza also provides a sheltered event terrace, intimate seating nooks, and an educational trail map playground.
